Lithostat (36°40'8.40"N,116°54'31.60"W)
A stainless steel housing contains an acrylic level that is mounted on a brass and aluminum ball joint and adjusted to 0° onsite. The base of the ball joint is threaded onto a stainless steel spike. The tool’s spike is driven into crumbling rock debris, stripped from the face of a cliff, at the site of a former gold mine in Death Valley.
